Three bandits escaped with $30,000 and two phones at around 21:00hrs last night after invading a fast-food snackette at Grove, East Bank Demerara, and beating the proprietor's son.

The men, who had two handguns, also discharged two rounds in the air while terrorising the family.

According to reports, the proprietor, Rafeek Khan, called ‘Haroon,' was about to close his snackette at Grove School Street when three neatly dressed men entered the premises.

The men then drew handguns and fired two shots in the air while ordering Khan to hand over his valuables.

The businessman gave the robbers $30,000, a cellular phone and a cordless phone.

However, this did not satisfy the bandits, and one of them headed to the back of Khan's house, where the businessman's 18-year-old son, Nawaz Khan, was watching television.

The bandit then struck the youth in the head with a wooden paddle while demanding more cash.

Meanwhile, the proprietor's maid, who was at the front of the shop when the robbers arrived, fled down the roadway and raised an alarm.

However, before residents could respond the robbers escaped into the nearby Caneville community.

Khan's injured son was taken to the Georgetown Hospital .

Police arrived shortly after the robbery had occurred and retrieved two bullet casings from the scene.
