Cops capture robber who stabbed mason

Police have captured the man who reportedly robbed and stabbed a 34-year-old mason in the face last Saturday on the Good Hope Public Road .

The suspect was captured during a police stakeout on the Better Hope Railway Line on Monday night.

Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the man frequents the area on a regular basis.

Alvin Baboolall of Lusignan Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara was reportedly attacked, stabbed and robbed of $18,000 when he stopped to give a man a cigarette while riding to his home around 21:00hrs.

Baboolall told Kaieteur News yesterday that he knew his assailant by name and also by the alias “Jumbie Bird”.

He claimed that he had failed to disclose this information earlier since he had feared his attacker would have located him at the hospital and harmed him further.

A police report said that the suspect was charged previously for similar offences and was also involved in three other robberies.

One of the robberies was said to have occurred at Good Hope a day before the suspect attacked Baboolall.

The other two robberies reportedly occurred in the said area the same night Baboolall was attacked.

The suspect was reportedly charged yesterday.

Baboolall was riding along the Good Hope Public Road when a man hailed him and asked for a cigarette.

The mason was in the process of giving the man the cigarette when the suspect pulled him from the bicycle and began punching him.

According to previous reports, the man also relieved Baboolall of $18,000.

Two other men reportedly joined the attacker as he was robbing the mason.

Baboolall was also stabbed repeatedly in the face and neck, and was saved when his screams attracted the attention of a driver.
