THE Ministry of Health yesterday commissioned into use an annexe to the Supply Chain Management Systems (SCMS) that also houses its Materials Management Unit, at the new Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (GPC) compound, Lot 1 Farm, East Bank Demerara.

The building includes a large warehouse, several offices and a room with two coolers for medical supplies and two refrigerators to store drugs which require storage in lower temperatures before being dispatched to locations countrywide.

The SCMS is part of the United States President’s US$15M Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) established last September to provide global procurement and distribution of essential HIV/AIDS medicines and supplies to donor funded and developing country programmes.

The ministry is continuing collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development which funds projects in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Guyana and, through that partnership, SCMS is jointly committed to the expansion and enhancement of services to aid people living with and affected by the disease throughout this country.

The ceremony yesterday was chaired by Warehouse Manager, Mrs. Sandra Khan-Manickchand and Dr. San San Min, Lead Resident Adviser, welcomed the invitees.

Also present were SCMS Country Manager for Guyana, Mr. Alan Pringle, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Ms. Sonia Roopnauth and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, Mr. Michael Thomas.
