A stall owner yesterday in Stabroek Market was for the third time this year a victim of bandits who entered the establishment and carted off a large sum of money as well as gold.

Pisan's Stall in Stabroek Market was targeted by two gun-toting bandits sometime around 11 am yesterday. The owner of the stall was however not willing to speak to the press a few hours after the robbery but other sources in the market were very critical of the lax security that prevails. The stall retails footwear and jewellery. Customers are required to enter the stall in order to do business and this apparently facilitated the bandits in their criminal objective.

The men, according to sources, went into the stall pretending to be legitimate customers and held the proprietor at gunpoint before escaping with some $80,000 and nearly two ounces of gold.

"The men just walk away free," said a source, adding "nobody didn't even know till the man daughter run out hollering 'thief, thief'."

Meanwhile, City Constabulary personnel in-formed Stabroek News that there is a revenue section of the Mayor and City Council in the market where constables are posted. The constabulary officer said they more or less deal with revenue collection at the section in the market but there are constables present who have powers of arrest, can institute charges and do general policing work as well.

There is also a constabulary outpost situated on the southern side of the Stabroek Market. When this newspaper arrived on the scene there were no constables visible in the market.
