Lumber dealer shot in stomach during robbery

Police were last night hunting for three bandits who shot a lumber yard owner in the stomach after invading his Foulis, East Coast Demerara home.


Naresh Pooran, 39, was cornered and shot by the men, who then escaped in his vehicle with an undisclosed sum of cash and jewellery.


The bandits abandoned the vehicle on the Railway Embankment near Stratsphey, East Coast Demerara.
Reports indicate that the men had been lurking near Pooran’s residence, which is at the back of Foulis.
Kaieteur News understands that Pooran had just entered his home at around 19: 45 hrs when the men pounced.
An employee of the wounded businessman told Kaieteur News that he was in the area when he heard screams. Someone then informed him that “the boss-man get shoot.”
The employee said that he ran to Pooran’s home and saw his employer lying in the yard. He had been shot in the stomach.
The employee, accompanied by the victim’s family members, took Pooran to the Dr. Balwant Singh Hospital where he was admitted.
Kaieteur News understands that the bullet exited through the victim’s back.
At press time, doctors were preparing to have Pooran undergo a CT scan to ascertain the extent of his injury.
